The CBL Interactive Environment for SELCOPY & CBLVCAT
As well as answers to general questions, the following FAQs may include solutions to problems that are not attributable to an error in the CBLi program and also problems for which a zap has not yet been published.

The following is a list of frequently asked questions that are answered at the CBLi query desk.

1. Why do I need CBLi?
2. Can I run SELCOPY and CBLVCAT within CBLi?
3. I've started CBLi under ISPF. How do I get at my ISPF applications from within CBLi?
4. My monitor is a 15" CRT. Can I still run CBLi?
5. Does CBLi allow me to run other software interactively?

1. Why do I need CBLi?
top CBLi allows you to do perform most of your day-to-day work in a Windows-style mainframe environment, and also provides you with a consistent working environment across all supported mainframe environments.

CBLi can run either as a VTAM application, from the TSO command line, within ISPF, or under CMS. All Operating system variants from MVS, OS/390, z/OS, VM/ESA, and z/VM are supported.

Using CBLi, you can edit multiple files, view the output of a number of CBLVCAT commands, debug a SELCOPY program, and more..
all at the same time!

2. Can I run SELCOPY and CBLVCAT within CBLi?
top YES!   You can use CBLi to run SELCOPY programs and all CBLVCAT commands interactively, and obtain the output in a 3270 Window.

3. I've started CBLi under ISPF. How do I get at my ISPF applications from within CBLi?
top When CBLi is started from within ISPF, users can switch into 'ISPF mode', where other applications (such as RMF or ISMF) may be running concurrently with CBLi in a split screen mode. Users can switch between the two using F9 (or Shift F9), in the same way they do now under ISPF.

This facility is not available when CBLi is run as a VTAM application, under CMS or from the TSO command prompt.

4. My monitor is a 15" CRT. Can I still run CBLi?
top CBLi can be run on any 3270 monitor (or any 3270 emulation software), but in order to get the maximum benefit we recommend using a 17" or a 19" screen.

We also recommend setting the terminal emulation to the 'IBM Dynamic' setting, and running at 62 rows x 160 characters wide. This may require new VTAM TN3270/TN3270E LOGMODE definitions. These changes will allow you to see a larger number of windows concurrently.

If you do not have a large screen or your terminal emulation software does not support 'IBM Dynamic', you can still run CBLi.
We recommend using the InitialSize=MAX setting in the CBLI System INI File. This will cause all windows to be opened up in full screen mode and thus obscure the main window menu bar.

However, CBLi always has a command line available. Commands and Function keys are available to help navigate windows, open Data Set lists, Volume lists etc. and so full use of CBLi facilities may be achieved in the absence of the main window menu bar.
e.g. Shift F9 will allow you to cycle through the windows.

5. Does CBLi allow me to run other software interactively?
top Not yet! We are currently working on technology which should allow any software that runs under TSO or ISPF to run unchanged under CBLi.

One of the most important applications is SDSF which can be run from the TSO command prompt or within ISPF.
