SELCOPY Product Suite Release 3.40 for z/OS

 
 

SELCOPY Product Suite Release 3.40 has been made Generally Available as of 2017/11/03, and may be downloaded from: https://www.cbl.com/selcdl.php.



SELCOPYi (MVS, VSE, CMS):

New features and enhancements in SELCOPYi 3.40 include:

Improved SELCOPYi startup time (reduced by approximately one third).

Debugger:

  • Support for debug of SELCOPY control statements processed using the SLC program.
  • Support for Watch List window to display the current value of specific variables and locations in storage.


Data Edit (MVS):
  • Significant improvements in performance and storage usage when processing large data sets where a significant number of records are excluded
    • e.g. EXCLUDE ALL; FIND ALL 'ABC'.

  • Introduce SELCOPYi internal COBOL and PL/1 copybook parsers which dramatically reduce storage requirements and the time taken to create an SDO structure.

  • Support for DB2 scrollable cursor based edit and browse. This allows edit of very large DB2 result tables that cannot be loaded into a user's available storage.

  • Support for DB2 table XML column data display, edit and browse. Also includes extract and insert of XML column data to and from MVS datasets, library members and HFS files.

  • Introduce new primary commands AVERAGE, MAX, MIN, SUM and TOTALS to display the average, maximum, minimum and total value of entries in one or more numeric columns. Note that TOTALS will display all 4 values.

  • Introduce new primary command FILTER which provides a dialog interface to include/exclude records based on selection criteria entered against a table of record formatting field names.

  • Enhancements to DB2 edit and browse panels and support for a DB2 SDO structure creation panel. These include SELECT, WHERE and SQL specification sub-panels.


Utilities (MVS):
  • Introduce new DB2 utility and object management panels. These include DB2 table LOAD and UNLOAD utilities.

  • Introduce support for the JSON generation utility to generate JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) output from formatted (structured) data.



SELCOPY (MVS, VSE, CMS):

SELCOPY is the original Assembler version of the batch product.

Important fixes that are specific to z/OS systems have been applied.



SLC (MVS, CMS, LNX, PC):

The SELCOPY (SLC) 3.40 C++ version batch program has been updated with fixes to product defects and functions to support interactive debugging via the SELCOPYi SELCOPY IDE/Debug utility.

Since SLC supports data elements not recognised by SELCOPY i.e. declared variables, a new debug WATCH window has been introduced to monitor the status of any selected variable or expression.

SLC is the latest version of SELCOPY for Batch. Developers are encouraged to explore and use the additional facilities offered by SLC.

This release of the SELCOPY Product Suite introduces the first edition of the SELCOPY C++ (SLC) Language Reference.
